Chapter III Methodology Definition of Terms Candle- a cylinder or block of wax or tallow with a central wick that is lit to produce light as it burns. Orange peel- the rind of an orange Olive oil- is a fat obtained from the olive, a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. The oil is produced by pressing whole olives. It is commonly used in cooking, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and soaps and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps. Wick- looks like a chord that usually holds the flame of a candle or oil lamp. Chapter IV Result and Discussion 1. Is the product a success, or a fail? The researchers can say that our orange peel candle is a success because the candle lighted up even though we didn’t use a wax that helps other candles to light up. We are also successful in just using orange peels and olive oil to have our own candle making the orange peels useful and not just thrown away by people eating oranges. 2. What is the problem? The problem in our research is why using candles with wax when you can use a candle without a wax and why buying branded candles if you can make your own candle in your house by just using orange peels and olive oil, and you don’t have to spend a large amount for it because you can get those ingredients in your house. The main objective of our orange peel candle is to make people practical and wise because you may just make your own glue and don’t even need a wax to have your own candle. 3. Is the topic possible or impossible? The topic is possible because it is so easy to do and we, the researchers, made a candle out of orange peels that also lighted up even without having a wax on it. Through that, our orange peel candle is eco-friendly because the supposedly waste orange peels are recycled resulting to an economical candle. 4. Are the trials successful? On our first trial, the orange peel candle didn’t light up because the wick is so wetted by the orange pulps. Because of that, the wick was almost turned into ashes that made it impossible to be lighted up. On second trial, gladly, we lighted up the candle even though it took a few seconds before it was lighted up. On that time, we are currently on 50-50 situation whether our product is effective because we failed on our first trial, but we succeeded on our second trial. We tried again for the third time, and gladly, it worked again. For our last trial, the orange peel candle lighted up and we are so glad because we made our product effective. We also tested if the candle will last for too long and unfortunately, it doesn’t last for like 7 hours or more. It only lasted for 1-2 hours. It is not bad enough because even though we didn’t use wax, the candle still lasted for a long time. 5. How much is the expenses? We spent P 30. 00 for 3 oranges because there is only 1 orange on the kitchen of our co-researcher. We also spent P 15. 00 for the printing of this term paper. All in all, we just spent P 45. 00 for this research to be made possible. Our research is only cheap because the other materials needed for our product can all be found in your house, particularly in your kitchen. Chapter V Conclusion and Recommendations Conclusion The researchers conclude that the candle made of orange peels is effective even though we didn’t use wax that some people thought it wouldn’t work because it doesn’t have a wax. It is also proven that you may just spend P 10. 00 for a piece of orange if you don’t have orange in your home, but if you have, I am absolutely sure that you will not spend or pull out some money. Over all, the product is effective because the candle lighted up even though we just used orange peels and olive oil to make the candle light up. It is also affordable when you sell it, for you didn’t have to spend anything when you are still making it, so you don’t have to put a high profit on it. It is also proven to be alternative candle because you may do it at your home immediately when you run out of candle. Overall, we, the researchers, found out that this research is successful because we exert our best effort to make our product useful and effective. Recommendations In the light of the conclusion drawn in this study, it is recommended that you must have patience when lighting up the orange peel candle. It is because it always takes a few seconds before it will be lighted up for the wick is not made of braided cotton that makes it easier for the candle to be lighted up. The procedures in doing this candle is very simple, but you must be very careful in doing it because when you will be careless in doing it, there will be a chance that the product will not be effective. So, just follow the steps carefully and be patient, and you will obtain your desired product.
